ResinTech Develops Advanced Hybrid Resins for Comprehensive Groundwater Remediation

ResinTech

ResinTech is pleased to announce our contribution to innovative research on hybrid resins for groundwater remediation, recently published in the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. This collaborative study, featuring the expertise of Larry Gottlieb, ResinTech's President and Chief Technologist, showcases our commitment to developing effective solutions for complex water treatment challenges.

Addressing Multiple Contaminants with Single-Pass Efficiency

Our newly developed hybrid resins represent a significant advancement in water treatment technology, offering the ability to simultaneously remove multiple groundwater contaminants that typically require separate treatment processes. These specialized resins effectively target:

  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) including PFOA and PFOS
  • Heavy metals such as chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and cadmium (Cd)
  • Inorganic compounds including nitrate (NO₃⁻) and perchlorate (ClO₄⁻)
  • Organic contaminants including trichloroethylene (C₂HCl₃) and tetrachloroethylene (C₂Cl₄)

Technical Innovation Led by Industry Expertise

"The challenge in groundwater remediation has always been efficiently addressing multiple contaminant classes simultaneously," explains Larry Gottlieb. "By engineering our SIR-series and CG8-series resins with specialized functional groups, we've created treatment media capable of performing ion exchange, adsorption, and selective binding mechanisms within a single resin matrix."

This innovation stems from ResinTech's commitment to research and development, leveraging our decades of experience in ion exchange technology to create solutions for emerging water quality challenges.

Advanced Resin Technology with Superior Performance

The hybrid resins featured in this research incorporate several technological advancements:

  • Optimized pore structure and distribution for enhanced contaminant access
  • Multi-functional exchange sites targeting different contaminant classes
  • Improved mechanical stability for extended service life
  • Enhanced kinetics for rapid contaminant removal

Performance testing demonstrates these resins achieve:

  • Greater than 99% removal efficiency for PFAS compounds
  • Effective reduction of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr) to below regulatory limits
  • Extended operational cycles between regenerations
  • Consistent performance across varying water chemistry conditions

Practical Applications Solving Real-World Challenges

ResinTech's hybrid resin technology is already being implemented in several applications:

  • Municipal drinking water systems requiring multi-contaminant removal
  • Industrial facilities meeting stringent discharge requirements
  • Groundwater remediation projects at contaminated sites
  • Point-of-entry treatment systems for comprehensive water purification
